Meanie:

Thanks! I was lucky, hummingbirds are very difficult to photograph...as they zip around extremely fast.

"All good things come to those who wait" is a saying that comes to mind!

Meanie:

Very true! I'v never tried to photograph a hummingbird before.

Hummingbirds are brave, they come up to me while watering and drink from my hose all the time.

It looks like a female Rufous hummer--one of the largest, and something of a bully at the feeder.

Tugbrethil:

I would think it's a he...because the male has a brighter color. The females have virtually no color.

The Anna Hummingbirds are my favorites. The males have the very bright neon pink to magenta bodies. Generally, they're the most commonly seen hummingbird here.

This is the male Rufous:

And this is the female:

Which, of course, shows that I'm wrong! : )
the closest match I have found is the female Anna's, but they're just medium-sized hummers:

Still beautiful, cute, pugnacious, territorial birds with an attitude problem...I can respect that! : D
