The fence was made out of the stems of the Elephant grass that we grow in the garden Gee , it grows to about 6/8ft tall and the stems are almost like canes .

They actually grow it in fields as a crop to burn in power stations , my husband knows more about that and he,s away at the moment , if you would like to know more I will ask him when he comes home on Friday !

The grass makes a lovely feature at the back of borders , I will take a photo when it has grown to it,s full height .........

Would love to know more about the grass, Amy. Probably not grown around here as the nearest power station is a nuclear one :)

I believe it is the nuclear power stations they use it in Gee , funny thing is my husband was sitting in the car when he rang me tonight with the grasses expert , he told me the Elephant grass is called Miscanthus , I will tell you more when he come home ........ :o)

Thanks, Amy, that has made me even more curious :)

Gee .. the Elephant grass is .. Miscanthus ...

I have found out a little more about it,s use .... It is cut in Feb / March with a forage harvester ..
Then made into bales for easier transport to the power stations . ( I was wrong it,s not the nuclear power stations )

The bales are then sliced ... like a loaf of bread ... mixed with coal dust and then fed into the boilers ... :o)

That fascinating, Amy, my family has been in the power station industry for over 60 years (coal fired and now nuclear) but I have never heard about this before. I guess it's true - you live and learn :)

It is true Gee .. they grow fields of it round here .. They are now wondering whether to continue with it , taking into account the carbon footprint they , are not sure if it,s practicle anymore ... so It may come to an end :o)

Sorry Amy, I wasn't doubting the truth of what you were saying about the elephant grass - just saying it's true that you live and learn :)

I told my daughter about it today but she already knew!
