Looking Back on Summer

Looking back on Summer on a grey November day brings my poem Satisfaction to my mind.
When the roses of the Summer,
Shed their perfume on the breeze,
Sprays of brilliant colour,
Cast a spell upon the bees.
We with satisfaction sit
And reap our true reward.
Tools are neatly stacked away,
We've polished up our sword.
The battles have been harsh and tough,
We've fought the vicious thorn.
Kept disease and bugs at bay,
Up at early dawn.
Forgotten are the hardships,
Not a single care occurs,
As we take the perfumed air,
And listen to the birds.
Walking in the garden,
Our trug upon our arm.
Snipping at the faded blooms.
Rejoicing at the charm
Of a garden full of roses,
Cascading from the bowers.
Giving our retirement,
Some very happy hours.

Lovely photo of your garden - and poem to match!
I wish it had been like that this particular summer, though! Maybe next year?

That is a brilliant poem you should have it published to a gardening magazine. I sent one of mine to a local paper and they published it.

Thank you Morgana, actually I have published a book of my poems which I also illustrated in colour with some of my oil paintings and sketches. Now I have achieved, I just write an odd one now and again when my brain takes a turn!! and got very lazy with the painting, I love the garden too much.
