Fabulous BB! Wonderful shot of a great moment....will be looking forward to seeing them around your garden. Did your grey squirrel have a litter of babies or were they "just good friends" ?....:o)

Hrrrr, wish my camera could take photos so close up, it would be great, mind you knowing me if i got another camera i would be clueless how to use it, when i get something new, the simpler it is to use the better for me.

Clarice , I know just how you feel , we want one button that does everything LOL .......

That photo is brilliant BB , did you watch the nest being built so that you knew where it was ?

I was watching a Blackbird this morning , picking up nesting material near the greenhouse and taking it into the beach tree next to it , the nest looks very big and to high up for me to see into it when it,s finished !

Thanks Janey squirrels remain in the drey for 8 - 12 weeks before fully weaned so expect to see babies around end of this month.

Most cameras have fully auto point and shoot modes nowadays Clarice but come with loads of other options as well so look very complicated - many of which you ll probably never use .If you set ours to fully auto works everything out even remembers zoom setting and tells you if not holding camera steady enough ..

Thanks Toto and Amy ..sadly these charming birds are pretty clueless when it comes to nest building and the view is exactly as you would see it why not a bit deeper into the tree mum ? As a result quite heavily predated on but this right under a giant rookery they offer some protection from magpies and jays .Your blackbirds nest about the size of half a coconut Amy.

Clueless is right Bonkers. Last year one built it's nest in a barely covered arch in a friends garden. It was about 6ft from the ground and in full view of both friend and foe. Luckily the dove had her chicks and they fledged successfully. More by luck than judgement.

your so lucky BB, we have some but not sure exactly where, but would love to see them like you, great shot

Thats good to hear Toto - you should get the chance Sanbaz as breed throughout the year to think they werent in this country till the 1950s now they are everywhere despite still not recognising a sparrowhawk !

10 May, 2009

Lovely birds aren't they - so graceful and serene - are they nesting in a shrub BB? PS: You make photography sound so easy, lol.

14 May, 2009

Dawn...they are nesting in large yew tree just over the wall in churchyard.Growing well now and still safe ! : ) Photography is all about being in the right place at the right time....with the camera ! Lol

They look very happy Ray! You are so good at the photos though - I'm still hoping John will get me a camera like yours ... but then I'll have no excuse.

14 May, 2009

Thanks both...we are keeping a close eye on them ! : )

14 May, 2009

Yes Dawn they sure are cute :) they remind me of when my Bruv used to have Racing Pigeons i used to love going in 2 the Shed to hold & check over the Babys & watch my bruv put their Rings on :)

14 May, 2009

Thanks for kind comments - well Dawn as can remember the days when everything on a camera had to be set manually and so much was trial and a lot of error , then to try and develop your own film and pics ..never thought digital would give the kind of results we see today.

Hope the racing pigeon chicks better looking than those of a wood pigeon Jacque ..only a mother could love them .

AAawwwwwwwww lol :)

We dont miss any of the old technology do we Ray.
Baby pigeons are so ugly but cute at the same time, bless them - I think we used to call them Bolchins for some reason.

Thought of you pair this morning - saw the king fisher on the pond - if he starts to visit regularly again I am definitely going to sit and wait with the camera, and wait, and wait ....

15 May, 2009

Thats great news Dawn - any progress on the nestsite you were planning to install ? Did you have any luck confirming whether you have water voles whatever next .. otters moving in ?

15 May, 2009

Hi Ray, we did build a nest box for the kingfisher but never saw him much again after that, lol. We made it in the bank of the brook - put a long piece of pipe into the bank which led into a chamber , and covered it all up. No action there though. As regards the water voles I'm not sure, dont think they are big enough, more the size of a mouse rather than a rat - probably just mice although we have a few holes in the bank of the brook - about the size of a tennis ball.
