Mid March 09.

Mid March 09.

DAFFODILS:

"Oh, laughter-lilies,
Dilly-dally,
Jolly love of daffodils;
For love of them
I'd go as silly,
Daft and laden as the hills.
Unfold your packaged and parachuted
Petticoated edge so fluted,
And in that gentle breeze so muted,
Count the many bobbing frills.

Beneath the twiggy bough of apple, ash
And cherry blossom blessed,
Soft to listen
Sun and shower,
Often in the shade of bower,
Rain-dropped each and
Glisten-dressed.

Sparkle, sun-lit,
Gleam-it, drop-let,
Shining in the ray of sun,
Bursting like a beam of prism
Out of each and every one.

Drenched and glitter,
So myriad the points of light;
Stars that twinkle on the 'neath of
Petals which they cling to tight.

Oft' I harken to the sound
Of bird song in the yonder trees,
And kneel among the faddo-dilies
Damp and mossy so my knees".

(Poem composed today so as to illustrate/accompany the photo. Written in the bath again. The Narcissi here are 'Ice Follies').
