Painted Table

Painted Table

The house front a few weeks ago and the fresh painted table, green to match my trim. Should protect it through winter as well.

Thank you Janey. I'm glad it got done, we're seeing the first cold weather today, sleet all the way home! EEEK!

23 Sep, 2009

I know I've said it before but I love your home - is it cosy inside? what sort of heating do you have? Sorry your cold weather is closing in - we're enjoying an Indian Summer at the moment which is a bit bizarre given the rubbish Summer we've had!

I like the green matching the trim...
anything else around the property also painted green ?

Thank you again Twiggy. :-) It is nice and cozy. A loft and catwalk upstairs and a bathroom in the back. It was built to add plumbing one day so unlike other waterless cabins around here (not uncommon) there is real kitchen sink and counters and a bathroom with a vanity. Bleached wood floors. Nice and clean looking. I posted a blog last winter what I do inside, since I can't...... if you'd like to look at the setup.

Thanks TT! :-) The landlord calls it the green cabin, since there were plans to have more different colors alongside it. Just the trim and the outhouse back in the background here. Adding the matching furniture just pulled everything tighter. I love it. I've plenty more paint to keep at it too. :-)

How do you get on there with no plumbing ?
I don't think i know of homes without plumbing/water.

26 Sep, 2009

Just incredible, your really devoted, been reading your blog and looking at the inside, bought tears to my eyes!!!! honestly for us looking in from the outside its a dream come true, what a beautiful home inside and out.thank you for sharing it with us all on GRO.

Well thank you Yorkshire. I do love having my little jungle all the time, and it comes along well. Hoping to impliment some automatic watering this year with a pump, should really add a little more enjoyment then lugging water around. :-)

Louise, I haven't had plumbing for 9 years. I just have to remove grey water collected in buckets each day and bring in fresh water in containers. I collect water from pumps in town or from a local spring. Bathroom outside of course...... but I have a bathroom vanity and kitchen sink indoors so it all works the same you just have to pour, heat, and remove the water rather than turn the tap. One day If I can dream up a spot for a tank, the landlord debates on plumbing it all up for me. What a change that would be! Main reason for no plumbing is cold weather. Peoples pipes freeze up all the time and many landlords just won't maintain that for renters.

Great job Greenthumb....

Thank you. Just in time too. All white now. ;-)

That's quite a difficult life sometimes, surely ?
At the risk of sounding like a 'spoilt brat', i don't think i could live without my plumbing !
It makes you realise what we take for granted.

(How do you keep the house warm if no plumbing for central heating, and do you have double (or more) glazed windows ?)
Excuse my ignorance but i'm interested :/

28 Sep, 2009

Actually, triple glazed is the standard here and most of us use some sort of diesel burning heat system. Most efficient would be radiant heated from diesel but still very new for these old places. :-) I've had a moment now and then thinking how much easier it would be but I don't have a hard time or anything. Does put a switch in my accomplishing dishes all the time. :-)

28 Sep, 2009

Are your heating systems efficient and is the cost of heating your home exorbitant as i would describe ours here !

28 Sep, 2009

It is pretty effecient depending on your burner. I have a small toyo stove which is very effeiceint. Just the cost of fuel rising that puts a dent in that. I supplement with an electric radiator in case the toyo fails to keep the plants going. Since we have a deep cold for so long, we have pretty efficient ways of heating without too much cost.

28 Sep, 2009

Oh that's good, i was thinking that had to be the case with such long cold winters.
I'm afraid that degree and length of winter would see me off in no time.
I'd have to migrate south, just a whiff of a minus figure and i'm unhappy.
Have you always lived in the cold climes ?

29 Sep, 2009

In Idaho it would get cold, -30 once. Summers were around 100F though, not cold at all. I miss the sun on the snow there, heating the world all day. Its a deep dark freeze here. I have had two winters without snow, and they were strange and seemed just too seasonless. Didn't drive me off to here, but I like having snow filled winter. I'm a bit of a hermit, and love how here I'm left alone, and the winter gives good excuse to not be out visiting. :-) You do adapt pretty quickly, its the dark that is really hard for most people.

30 Sep, 2009

Yes, i think i would have difficulty adapting to the dark and i can't even begin to comprehend -10 let alone -30.
It suits me living in a climate that's rarely below freezing and more likely a minimum of 5 !

It's nice that you can lead the lifestyle you like Greenthumb, that's what it's all about isn't it ?

30 Sep, 2009

Sure is Louise. I'm gonna go cuddle into my down comforter for the night. :-)

30 Sep, 2009

And i'll get ready for work !
