Unfortunately, they don't taste quite as good as they look: they are more seed than grape.

Actually, I have a confession to make - these are our neighbours', and we are really too high up the mountain to grow grapes as a crop. This just happened to be after a mild winter - he grows them for decoration and they come over our wall! They don't taste that good, and he doesn't even bother to pick them!

Very pretty, anyway!!
I wonder how high it is around your place!?

We're at 500 metres (about 1,600 feet), but you need to climb another 200 metres before you reach the nearest village and can then get on the road to get off the mountain. The summers are warm enough, it's just the freezing winters that kill the vines.

Wow, 500 metres! Brrr that's why you have loads of snow. It must be difficult to get by in winter, surrounded by highly-piled-up snow. I suppose you need to stock up shedloads of food before winter kicks in.

Yup - I had to beg a ride on a neighbour's tractor after more than a fortnight of being snowed in just to get off the mountain - mostly we needed loopaper and catfood - I'd thought of most other things.
