Sedum " Purple Emperor"

Sedum " Purple Emperor"

What a star this sedum is, small deep purple leaves and a mass of lovely pink flowers, it is a ground cover too and doesnt need staking like some of its taller relations;0)

I really like the colour of this one, Pp....I bought "Postman's Pride" last November...it's been poking along, not looking as happy as other sedums. Finally some blossom though it's a bright red. I like the colour of yours better.

Fabulous Pansy....I love Sedums...:>)

Thanks Lori, Motinot and Homebird this is a lovely one and well worth searching out if you like Sedums, I think the dark leaf ones do take a little longer to get established but once they get going there's no stopping them! Lori I havent seen a red one it sounds interesting have you a picture?

The one you gave me seems to be doing ok ,Carole..still in it's pot as you suggested..I have put it in the growhouse, but it's left open during the day..should I leave it there for the winter ? not really sure, with Sedums being hardy..

4 Oct, 2012

They are hardy Sandra but it will die back then regrow in spring, so it should be ok outside, but if you are concerned I dont think it would come to any harm in the Greenhouse.Been planting a few bulbs today on the rockery and in the front garden, that and cleaning the Conservatory windows lol

4 Oct, 2012

Thanks Carole..I think I will leave it there, but keep an eye on it..maybe a little water now and then,to stop it drying out completely..What a lovely day it's been, ideal for bulb planting..I got some in a few days ago..and today,we had Thomas ..he was here for breakfast ! ...then I went out to lunch with a friend, and left him with Russell :o) so not done much of anything ! Lol.

I saw one of these in a GC on my last day back, and reduced, too, but it was just too big and vulnerable for the suitcase. Darn it! It is SO pretty, and I have the perfect spot for it in my garden. One for the wish-list. I didn't realise you could propagate from cuttings. I must try with my other sedums.
I bought what looked very like a pretty little pink-flowered sedum from a garden shop today- as usual it was unlabelled, and as I paid for it I asked the girl what it was, and thought she said "pianta grassa", which is "succulent", but an Italian friend told me what it is is a "crassula", so isn't it a sedum, after all? They aren't the same thing, are they?
