Siberian Pea

Siberian Pea

Often used as a hedge, I found this one wild along a path. These nice yellow flowers are followed by pea pods that pop. It is very invasive and but is a nice thick hedge that survives our winter

Sure got a lot of unusual things growing in Alaska.

Unusual but some are really beautiful, like this pea. This one is so tough here. I found one house shrouded in 8 foot hedge of this. This botanical garden is growing a siberian pea maze in the childrens garden. I'd growit but it is very invasive, you put it in, and fight it from then on. :-) I'm collecting our natives this year to make a wild flower section in my garden.

Does it have thorns, Greenthumb? We had a very similar hedge in Quebec. It's very sturdy - nothing could or would push through it, except for a pick-up that came off the road on the bend. People would come and pick the pods and plant the seeds for hedges of their own.

I do think it has thorns, its sharp anyway. It is very easy to propagate and very hardy. I can't wait to see the maze a t the bot/ garden all finished. Its going to be fantastic!
