Lobelia laxiflora (var. Angustifolia)

meanie

By Meanie

Lobelia laxiflora (var. Angustifolia) (Lobelia laxiflora (Sierra Madre Lobelia))

For Stickitoffee!
This is my secret plant that I got from Hill House nursery.
It's an absolute beauty (in my eyes anyway), and a strong contender for my plant of the year.

I've wanted this since seeing it at Hyde Hall.Have you got it through winter,or isit new this year?

27 Jun, 2011

It's new this year, and I'll be treating it with kid gloves this winter!

27 Jun, 2011

just excellent Meanie !

It's certainly a beauty! Your favourite colours and loads of buds. I love that glowing yellow - like a Tongue! How big is the whole plant?
Thanks for putting this on - well worth the wait.

Thanks SL and Sticki!
It stands about 40cm tall Sticki.

Wow never seen one like it, would never have guessed it was a lobelia.

27 Jun, 2011

Can it go outside?

27 Jun, 2011

I wanted one the second I came across a photo of it Simbad!

27 Jun, 2011

It can go outside in the summer, but it is tender so indoors over the winter.
I'm hoping to get viable seeds from it so that I can experiment a little with overwintering next year.

27 Jun, 2011

I hope you succ-seed!!

It reminds me a little bit of the 'lipstick' plant but that doesn't have such a wonderful colour.

27 Jun, 2011

By Lipstick Plant you mean Aeschynanthus.......

I have another Aeschynanthus almost in bloom too!

I thought I was quite good in plant names before I joined GoY but you know all the proper ones, I think that's the one although your photo looks spectacular and the plant my mum has doesn't look that good.

My computer has the dreaded blue/black screen so I'm using the tablet type of computer, haven't got used to the cutting and pasting yet, it's taking me longer!

27 Jun, 2011

I only know the ones that I have/want!
Wait till you see the next one!

27 Jun, 2011

The next one? You have another spectacular plant??

27 Jun, 2011

It's a somewhat more unusual Aeschynanthus Sticki!

27 Jun, 2011

Black lipstick?

27 Jun, 2011

Green!!

27 Jun, 2011

Now that is unusual. Like a goth plant?

27 Jun, 2011

It is a little!

27 Jun, 2011

I shall await the photo ~ impatiently!

It looks a winner to me Meanie , wow , you certainly know how to pick out the weird and wonderful :o))

It's amazing where "link clicking" can take you Amy!

All round the world? And through the final frontier sometimes it seems!

29 Jun, 2011

Many an hour of insomnia has been spent that way!

29 Jun, 2011

Yes it's amazing!

There are some things I don't like about the 21st century but the Internet I love and computers I love (when they work)

29 Jun, 2011

It has certainly changed the way that we live - imagine the endless phone calls it would have taken to find this!

29 Jun, 2011

Yes but think of what I might have got done if I didn't spend all my time on it!

But in other ways it is irreplaceable!

29 Jun, 2011

I have a couple of laptops, so it's easy to take with you......

29 Jun, 2011

The old one was a lap top. I'm wondering if they last as well?
I've got internet on my phone now tho!

29 Jun, 2011

I threw my mobile in the bin and went back to a phone that worked!

30 Jun, 2011

So beautiful Meanie must lookout for that.

Be following this post re your seeds.

30 Jun, 2011

You'll have to seek this one out I feel Scotkat as you're unlikely to find it in most garden centres.
If it produces seed as freely as most Lobelia I should be ok....

30 Jun, 2011

Glad you have a working phone. mine is fine so far, I like it.

30 Jun, 2011

Thanks for pointing me in this direction - you do collect wonderful plants! Pity it's not a hardy one....:-(

I'm in love with this one Spritz! I just keep getting drawn to the tender plants.
I'm building a raised bed with insulated sides that will have a coldframe added to the top for winter - this will go in that bed, but I've taken three divisions of it just in case......

Another gem from Hill House......

That's a very clever idea, well done meanie - you will be on gardeners world yet!

9 Jul, 2011

I need more space for the "tenders" Sticki!

9 Jul, 2011

Just think it's such a good idea.

9 Jul, 2011

How did I miss this one. Love the idea of the raised, insulated bed, with the frame on top. Let me know if you build one!!

16 Jul, 2011

It's a bit of a gem isn't it!
I've got everything except the polystyrene insulation panels (which are at work now).

16 Jul, 2011

Will you blog how to make it!!
Maybe a thick band of copper tape around it would help deter those slugs...?

17 Jul, 2011

I hope you will do a blog on it, please?
