Terminalia catappa - Tropical almonds (Terminalia catappa)

Known only as 'fruit' here. In the new garden - can't wait until they're ready!

How much fun are you going to have - certainly all make a change from apples, pears etc :)

Hahaha, Scottish...you're so right! I picked one of these today and I asked every single African person I met, 'What is this?'. The answer was, 'it's a 'fruit'!'. It's just called, 'fruit'...everything else has a name!

It's better than having no name I suppose :)

It would seem that when they're ripe, I have to get to them before the local children...so no difference there, then... :))

The same the world over I suppose :)

I like the look of 'fruit'!

It's quite nice to know that, isn't it, Scottish? :)))

I like the look of it too, KS...got a few weeks to wait until it's ready, tho'!

I like tropical almonds! This tree grows wild in Hawaii, along the coast. I think it growd here...it's just not common.

It took me ages to find out what they were, Delonix. I'd never even heard of them before. I feel like an explorer!

I'm going to have to be quick if I want to taste them tho'!!!

My friend got some seeds just south of San Diego in Baja California. My friend (a former GoY member) and I are going to germinate them. I think we'll make it a contest to see who can germinate the first one. :>)

Good Luck!!! :)))
They're LOVED by all Nigerians!

Yes, the tree is beautiful, however, I've never tasted the fruit. I've seen them growing wild in Hawaii...and never attempted to taste any.

Esther tells me that the flesh is ruby red and delicious, then there's the nut inside. I'll let you know, if the children don't get there first!

The reason why I've never tasted one is because I'm allergic to most nuts. I usually don't eat any nuts as a precaution.

Oh dear...then I don't blame you. I wouldn't either. :(
