Thats a lovely one Meanie my favourite hence my name on another garden site Passiflora, you ll have to keep this one indoors not hardy.

Because it's not hardy?
It's the first flower I remember seeing! It rather frightened me, but then again I was only 3!

Yes there are only certain ones Lulu that are hardy I ve tried most of them and the only one I find successful year after year is Cearulea, you can have them flowering indoors in conservetary, or with a lamp they say Lavenderlady is hardy I ve had two died over winter the other white one too they say is hardy for got its name lol.

Thanks 6d - it should be ok huddled up in the garage I think..........
Which is why I've been resisting Lulu!
Still, it's not as tender as Sues which she got from Devon;

No Meanie they need light at least 4 hours a day you can get special bulbs with a lamp.

The garage has a window.......
Sues P.caerulea used to die back in the winter, this is the same species, just a different variety. What do you think?

18 Jul, 2011

Yes they die back just mulch the top of the pot even if you ve putting into the garage for a bit of frost protection, they like to be feed with tomatoe feed or skin of bannan chopped up a little in the earth Potasium, if you trail around not straight up you ll get more flowers but don't over feed as you might not get many flowers.

Ah, goodo!
The garage is pretty ok in the winter - everything sits on several layers of carpet offcuts and newspaper huddled around the airbrick. Plus, the boiler flue goes out through the garage now too, which should make it even better over the winter.

Thats good then but it does like the light even if not in flower that I do know.

Passiflora Caerulea 'Constance Elliot' is the hardy white one. I had it in my garden here, but took it out as I wasn't keen on the white flowers, prefer the blue caerulea.

18 Jul, 2011

This is supposedly hardy down to minus 5 or 8 degrees......

18 Jul, 2011

I have 'Caerulea' blue and 'Constance Elliot', new this year.....I intended to leave them outside with a mulch....But last winter we had -16 a few times...:<(

Thank you Sticki and Surreylad!

19 Jul, 2011

Ive got the Constance Elliott too..I was thinking of the greenhouse for winter altho really hoping it would survive in the ground..oh dear, what to do!

21 Jul, 2011

I'm new to Passiflora, but from what I've discovered they'll grow quite well in fairly small pots if fed regularly, so mine is in the garage for winter!

21 Jul, 2011

I can understand Meanie .They are just irressistable

25 Jul, 2011

The P. antioquensis is setting flower buds now - that is something to look forward to!
