Thank you Terra. You can see why Truffles always brings back memories for me, the colouring so similar. Had him for sixteen years.

Happy memories :)

Sixteen years for a Smooth Haired Fox Terrier is a very good age ... wonderful !

Wonderful pic!

Makes me quite nostaligic. I expect my Father took the photo, and another pic in which I am lifting the poor lad up by his tail. Was so good tempered.

Many Smooth Haired Fox Terriers have excellent temperaments. Back in the first part of the 20th century this breed was one of the most popular dogs in the UK, but now, sadly, they are on the Kennel Club list of 'Vulnerable Native Breeds'.

These days, in Britain, very few litters are bred of the Smooth Fox Terrier, compared with other more 'popular' breeds, such as Staffies and West Highland White Terriers.

Siris, your dog was super.. What was his name ?

Simon, Terra. First of several. My mother particularly liked Wire Haired Fox Terriors, which she had as a child.

My first dog ... for which I pleaded for a VERY long time... was a wonderful Wire Haired Fox Terrier... super dogs.

These two breeds deserve to be more popular, but they are active dogs, not couch potatoes or handbag dogs for celebs!

Fortunately Wire Fox Terriers are not currently on the Vulnerable Breeds list. Another breed I've owned, and which I adore, is the Welsh Terrier .. steadier than the Fox Terriers.

My old Welsh Terrier 'Bonsai' is on some of my GoY garden photos and on my GoY avatar picture, pushing his wheel-barrow.

Interestingly, overseas, in places such as Scandinavia, USA and Canada, the Fox Terriers, Welsh Terrier and many other British dog breeds are far more numerous than in the UK, where in recent decades, breeds such Bichon Frise and French Bulldog have become very popular.

I looked back at you doggie photos the other evening. Saw the one of Truffles as a pup, such adorable eyes. You are certainly right about being naughty. Gives you that 'What me look', then when thinks you are not looking does exactly what he was thinking of doing in the first place.
My dogs did heel work, scent work etc, need an intelligent dog for that.
If I had another dog (husband never had a dog, only a family cat) would need a smallish dog. Like the Miniature Schnauzer breed or another 'Simon'.

Yes, go for a smaller breed ... easier to carry as you get older. This link is to the Kennel Club Breed Information Centre... this is the Pug page, but you can click from there to the other Groups and breeds. Let me know which smaller dogs catch your attention !

I would love another dog, but it's not to be. Thank you Terra.

A good thing you have such fantastic memories of your wonderful dogs over the years.
