Salvia 'Wendy's Wish'

Salvia 'Wendy's Wish' (Salvia)

This is a shrubby Salvia - a cross between two others. It's supposed to be hardier than some of the others.

This is a beaut!
Funny how the hardiness varies so much - my nurseryman said definitely tender. Didn't stop me as it's an absolute gem of a Salvia!
Interesting story behind it too - it was discovered in the garden of a Salvia collector in Australia, Wendy Smith. It's protected by patent, with all profits going to the Make a Wish charity, hence the name.

Right, public apology Spritz - I packaged your Tricyrtis and then forgot to post them before we went away. I'll have to dig some fresh ones up tomorrow now. My deepest apologies for my stupidity!!

Thanks, Meanie - we all forget to do things, sadly. I'll look forward to getting my Tricyrtis.

I do hope this Salvia does turn out to be hardy! Thanks for the background info. :-)

Looking forward to it - I'm sure you've almost given up on it!!
I hope that it's hardy too, but I'll try to take a couple of cuttings just in case......

No - I knew you'd get round to it eventually. :-) I can't see much material on mine to take cuttings...I'll see what happens.

I have a few young shoots in the leaf axils which I'll try.
I've also just bought a Salvia discolor that I want to try to take a cutting of.....

Hmmm...I KNOW that's tender! :-(((

Do you get down Exeter way much? I got it from a cracking nursery down there.

25 Jun, 2011

Do please pm me and let me know where it is! Exeter isn't too bad a trip, down the M5. :-))

This is one of my bargains.....

........ it was about a fiver at three feet tall!

Thanks for the info - I checked, and it's too far, I'm afraid. Interesting, though!

26 Jun, 2011

We'll certainly be popping in on an annual basis from now on!

27 Jun, 2011

It's a long way from you!

29 Jun, 2011

We'll combine it with a short break - there's a whole catalogue to work our way through! I had to pass up on a beautiful Plectranthus hybrid due to lack of space......

29 Jun, 2011

I hope you have a bottomless wallet and a large vehicle! LOL.

29 Jun, 2011

The trick is not to take too large a vehicle Spritz, although it'll probably be an estate next year and not a hatchback!

30 Jun, 2011

Hmmm..you can fit a lot of pots into an estate car. Bad idea! :-(

30 Jun, 2011

Still kicking myself about having to leave the Plectranthus behind through lack of space in the car!

30 Jun, 2011

What was wrong with having it on your lap, then? lol.

30 Jun, 2011

I would have been unable to see where I was going (or about to hit)!!

30 Jun, 2011

Noooo....really? LOL.

By the way, I must post another photo of this lovely Salvia - another flower stem is in full bloom, and it's very special. :-))

1 Jul, 2011

Me too - but it is a b#gger to catch the luxuriance and richness of the colour......

2 Jul, 2011

I was too late - the flowers had dropped off! :-( There are more on the way, though.
