You could mix with Daffodils, crocus, Hostas, primroses, Aubretia, Cow slips, wild Poppies, you can buy mixed wild flower seeds and just cut with strimmer when finished to come back next year.

I'm a fern fan so I would load it up with more ferns & perhaps some shade-tolerant flowers...celandine poppies, wild phlox, maybe some Arisaema, for that woodland look.

I like Ferns Lauram until I found out the spaws that grow causes cancer if disturbed and inhaled.

That isn't good, I'll have to look into that since I have a lot of shade and the ferns are so reliable. Plus I just ordered 5 ostrich ferns off of eBay.

Sixpence, I just did a little internet research. It seems that the bracken fern is the species that is implicated in stomach cancer, and is the only higher plant known to cause cancer in humans, although one article said that testing of other species is ongoing. Apparently, people who live in bracken-filled areas & those who drink milk from cows who've eaten bracken fern have higher rates of cancer. Milk from cows fed bracken fern has caused cancer in rats. This is said to be the most common fern in the US, but I don't think I've ever seen it. The most common fern in this area is the Christmas Fern. I wonder how overblown the fear is - lots of things can cause or raise the risk of developing cancer but are fine in moderation - think chocolate or full-fat dairy products. Well, I guess I'll just be careful handling my ferns.

I don't know how over blown it all is, I leaned this from another goyer one here, as I have 3 ferns myself, so I did nt get any more.

Hello folks and thank you for the comments and ideas.
There are some spring bulbs in there already and I like the idea of perhaps some wild poppies in there too.

Your welcome Skipscanda1, I thought I could see some kind of bulbs just popping their heads up at the end of the log fence.

I have seen a programme about the bracken fern spores causing cancer Skips ... there does seem to be truth in it ! .. I wouldn't plant anything very tall in this sloping area to spoil the lovely view across the meadow ... I think the Aubretia would look lovely amongst other wild flowers , also how about Heuchera 's they have so many different vibrant colours now ... . welcome to Goy ... ;o))
