Autumn Viburnum edule

Autumn Viburnum edule

Though a bit sparse as far as foliage for a garden plant, this wild species is a great autumn color with bright red berries. This particular berry is all juice and has a distinct smell that fills the forest where it live for nearly two months. Can be very overpowering.

They are edible, I think they make a wonderful syrup. Most people don't like the smell as it really gets overwhelming if you live in the hills. Kind of sickening and sweet.

is it like rose hip syrup that we used to be given as children ~ to keep colds away?

Stunning shot, GT. Lots of colour and a real representation of Autumn.

Thank you Lin. :-)

There is a good bit of vit C in it, but the syrup is strong flavored and tart, not like a mild rosehips syrup. I like how it reminds me of summer when I have it in winter.

Thanks Pip. Just love looking at it. Always in nice patches, seldom alone. :-)
