Do you know, I really really like that! That's so pretty with all the green around it. I shall google it Tet. Thank you!

Could be 'orange flame' tet. The winter orchid one is bicoloured.

There is a yellow one I believe..not absolutely sure..think Bjs gave me a bit..flowers not quite so in your face if I remember..Got it growing somewhere..I will check tomorrow when the rain stops!

Nope, definitely don't want yellow. This is nice, it's almost terracotta coloured isn't it...I like it. I shall put this on my faves and hunt it down later. Thank you!

Pretty one....

Yes, I wondered why my Erysimums never look like this, then I read that they like neutral to alcaline soil and I have neutral to acid soil, so that's probably why. Not to worry, I have plenty of other things in my warm border. Today I added Geums in peachy shades and hemerocallis in peach and red....it should look much warmer this year!

Lovely splash of colour.

Have you thought about Potentilla Wm Rollinson Karen?

25 Feb, 2011

Thanks Tetrarch, but I have to admit I am not a fan of potentilla. I AM a fan of Geum though, and have planted some of those.

I cant say I love the fruiticosa..tho they are okay in the right place, but I do love the herbaceous type, especially Monarch's Velvet of which I have loads! I do have Melton Fire and Miss Willmott to, but MV holds its flowers erect which I like to see.

I will go and look them up as I am not familiar with herbaceous types! Thanks!...Oh yes! They are sooooo like Geums aren't they. That Wm Rollinson one you suggested is a fab. colour! I don't think I'll have room now, with all the Geums I've planted, and still some to come on order! Lovely though! thanks! Great when you learn something new!

I only "discovered" them about 5 years ago, and fell irrevocably in love with Monarch's Velvet! lol!

26 Feb, 2011

Yes, I can see why, it's beautiful. Nicer than Rollinson though not as bright.

I couldn't live without my Bowles Mauve Lol....I keep cuttings in pots now to replace them as they go over. This one is a nice colour Tet

That's the one I tried here a couple of times but they just go really woody and straggly on me. Must be because of the acid soil. At least I know now. Before Tetrarch suggested this, I had no idea where I was going wrong!

26 Feb, 2011

It's one that does really well in any aspect of my garden Karen and I love the early and very late colour. They flower into mid winter here. Not very long lived but bless them they flower their socks off for about 4 years before going straggly

They are lovely when they do well!

Karen mine dont last long either couple years or so but someone probly Annella suggested taking cuttings, so I will in future and replace the plant every two years. It grows quickly
