Raised Bed Gardening - I wish!

I have decided that as January is still not quite over, it is not too late to make a few gardening resolutions for this year. Top of the list is to do something about my raised beds. Last Spring they didn’t look too bad but the summer deluge and the Winter frosts have taken a heavy toll and the boards are now in a sorry state and are crumbling away. I want to be like the smug b’s in the adverts standing beside their raised beds admiring the bounteous crops in immaculate raised beds. As the pictures show this will take some effort but I reckon if I expose myself to your ridicule now I will be forced to act to win back my self esteem. Watch this space………..!

Umm. See what you mean, but NO ridicule on GOY, I promise! Just sympathy at your plight. :-(

If I could find my camera I would show you that you are not alone. My veg. patch is in a sorry state too, covered in wet leaves, more weeds than I care to count and tree prunings which haven't yet been cut down into kindling. I know that before long the bindweed which has been dormant below soil level over winter will be springing into life and need to be dug out (it uses the beech hedge as its castle and makes fresh forays every Spring).
But are we down-hearted? No (well, not yet), the early potatoes are chitting in the egg boxes and there is some lovely home-made compost in the bin just waiting to be spread on a day when the soil isn't so claggy that it makes my gardening muckers into platform shoes.

Doesn,t look too bad to me,think a lot of us have areas like that, a few mins. with a rake will make all the difference.Looking forward to seeing your new beds in the spring.

It's not too late to make some plans. Spring is just around the corner but it isn't here yet. I'm sure it won't take too much work to get your garden as you want it in time for growing all your vegetables

GM.....if you could see my garden under all the snow your self esteem would soar sky high. He He he....Every year I am full of fantastic ideas and resolutions which last until the summer. But, then our summers just get soooooo hot that it is much too exhausting to do anything out there uless it is in the middle of the night....much more enticing to sit in the shade with a nice cold drink and plan for next year.

Besides, GoY members NEVER ridicule...only offer our steadfast support and undying sympathies for your plight. LOL :o)

Thanks for the support - I am actually not too downhearted as I know a bit of work will transform it; must start soon (repeat 50 times)
