Brugmansia - Angel's Trumpets

Brugmansia - Angel's Trumpets (Brugmansia - Angel's Trumpets)

My tallest Angel's Trumpets is in full bloom now. The sweet fragrance is very strong, especially in the evening. Photo taken June 22, 2011.

I saw some Brugs to match this the other day - they were in the greenhouses of a rather splendid nursery that I discovered in Devon, and not for sale!

That's funny! I think of you when I see the thousands of wild Datura growing wild along the freeways and in opens fields. lol! :>)

Meanie:

All you need is a cutting. All mine were started by cuttings.

Great display. I now have my first Brug. I haven't planted it just yet, will be waiting until the dry season is over. I'm looking forward to seeing it bloom for the first time when it matures a little more.

Thanks! :>)

Your plant will most grow very quickly and bloom off-and-on throughout most of the year, like here in CA. Most varieties don't like extreme heat, though. The best blooming is from October - May.

I thought I might plant it out towards the end of our Spring, which is when the dry is coming to an end as well. But if they don't do too well in extreme heat, I might have to wait until the Summer is over ... maybe early Autumn.

It's happy enough in its' pot at the moment, so I don't think it will hurt to keep it there for a few more months.

Bernieh:

Angel's trumpets love a lot of water...and they do wilt in the heat of the day (which they've been doing here a lot lately). Generally, they perk back up in the evening when the sun goes down.

Angel's trumpets don't do well in pots for a long time...they have tons of feeder roots which fill out the pots so quickly (within weeks).

So many trumpets.....we have two lol

Dottydaisy2"

Two is better than none. :>)

All my Angel's Trumpets are in full bloom now. It's amazing to me, because they usually bloom best and heaviest from October - May.

The weather this year is crazy, we have returned to March/April.......

6 Jul, 2011

Oh my! That's is crazy!

We've moved on to August weather. It has been so horribly HOT and HUMID here! It's unbearable...it's still 88ºF/31ºC in my house...outside may be slightly cooler (and it's 9:30 p.m.) I need to get my air conditioner on soon.

It is a very strange season, that's for sure - my Zauschneria californica is almost in bloom, six to eight weeks early!

Meanie:

I know what you mean. We had one very strange spring this year, cooler than normal. Spring of 2010 was usually cool, also.
