Yes, it does produce a lot of seeds. Actually, many palms species produce tons of fruit!

Tallest Mediterranean fan palms grow to 30ft/10m. It does take them a very long time to reach such heights though. I have several pics of very large ones posted.

There's several species of bats which are native to San Diego...not sure if they're fruitbats though. We have enough birds which digest seeds here...and they all seem to roost in the very tall Norfolk Island Pine in my front yard. So many seedlings pop up under this tree.
