These grow everywhere in Bankok, Thailand, where my sister lived until recently. I love them too!

Milky, thanks! As you know it's my favorite tree. : > )

Mushybanna, yes, they have very bright red flowers.

Sid, I'm sure they are gorgeous in Bankok, Thailand! They love the tropics. We have them here in San Diego,CA...however, they are not as prolific as in the true tropics.

Thanks for the comments!

Rbtkew, Lori:

Royal Poinciana trees are not even weed trees here.
They would be perfect for a weed tree in San Diego...which is possible, however, unlikely. : > )

I have a baby delonix grown from seed I got from a friend who bought a packet of assorted seed when she was in Cuba...at least that what it looks like...

Amblealice:

Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana seeds are pretty
easy to germinate...however, they can be somewhat
touchy to grow outside of subtropical and tropical
regions...even as a houseplant...they grow best in a
heated greenhouse.

My seedlings are in a heated conservatory, so should be ok. Are they deciduous?

8 Dec, 2009

Amblealice:

Yes, they do go deciduous...usually in winter or very
early spring. I have several seedlings in an unheated
greenhouse...and they will start to loose their leaves
over the next couple of months.
