Love ferns Simbad :-) I'm going to try and incorporate some that are OK in damp conditions into my garden next year.

Thankyou everyone:-)))
Ooh be great for your garden Dawn with your large wood, most like it damp and shady, was going to say do you have osmunda regalis, thats a beauty near water, but see from your plants you already have it:-)
Lovely isn't it Bernieh, kindly identified for me by Plug on GOY :-)
Have another Amy thats even curlier than this, its died back for winter now, Dryopteris filix-mas crispa cristata.

Funnily enough I was reading up on ferns in the old RHS Gardening Encylopedia last night, I didnt realise some of them tolerated damp conditions - another one I like the look of is: Matteuccia, another for the Wishlist

Now thats funny Dawn I bought Matteuccia Struthiopteris this year from gardeners world live, planted it in the wood :-)

How exciting Kathy. They get quite big dont they, we obviously have the same tastes :-) Have you ever tried propogating ferns by taking a leaf cutting and burying the fronds.

17 Dec, 2009

Yes they do Dawn, only small at the moment, but should spread around once it gets going,
No Dawn never tried propogating ferns, is it that easy? when is the best time to take the leaf cuttings?

Not sure, I've been reading about it in the RHS book - I'll take a look and let you know.
