This was a new one last year, arrived with buds on but every flippin one had gall midge so had to wait till this year for flowers, been in and out all day checking this flower but it hasn't opened completely, sure later ones will be fine, still think its lovely though.

That is lovely Kathy. I don't have a single flower bud on any of my h's. I think I shall give up on them if they don't flower this year.

Thankyou all:-), I love this one, very appropriate name :-)
Thanks Leigh, thats my problem I love them all, lol, lots more to come ;-)
It does look a fab eye doesn't it Wylie can't wait for the next flower to open :-)
Wonder why Karen ?? can't think of any special care they need, except a sunny spot(will take some shade) and not planting too deeply, I give mine a feed of seaweed fertiliser in early spring and thats it really, split every 2-4 years depending on how vigorous the variety, some varieties need a year or so to settle in before flowering but usually they flower pretty quickly, all the ones I bought in spring this year as 1 or 2 fans have flower scapes, straaaange, the one you sent has buds forming too, it did have a couple of flowers last year too :-))
Definitely Amy :-))

Thats true :o) i didnt have much luck with the lilies i planted, the only one left is just a weird spindly looking thing about an inch high lol, think the slugs got to it first but its still fighting. the one in the front come up quite well then the day after when i went out it was a gonna! can i grow them indoors or the greenhouse? :o)

Were they bulbs Leigh ?, have to admit I only grow one variety of lily bulb which I've had for years, grow it in a pot though as I can never remember where I plant bulbs in the garden :-), they usually live behind the greenhouse till they come into flower then I bring them out, they've been in the same pot for several years now must repot, this year they've been eaten alive by lily beetle :-(
Daylilies aren't a 'true lily' in that they don't grow from a bulb but very thick fleshy roots, you plant them in the garden and they increase each year like any perennial, tough as old boots grow in any soil but do love a sunny spot,(they will tolerate some shade), every few years you dig up and just pull the fans apart to make new plants, they also don't get lily beetle, yaaaay, in fact aren't bothered by any pests except the earlies which can suffer from gall midge, later varieties aren't affected, slugs do sometimes eat the young shoots but once the plants get going they don't bother them, yes the flowers only last a day, but a mature clump has lots of buds so can flower for six weeks, as you can see I love them there are doubles, spiders, fancy eyes tiny ones that are only 2-3inches across to huge ones that can be 14inches(yes I have one that size), I'd make a good daylily sales person don't you think, lol, in fact I do often sell my plants on ebay, lol.

thanks 4 all that info kathy-dont think ill need to do any research now ill just add this to my faves lol :o) yeah you'd make a great saleslady! you are my official daylily advisor then :o) i didnt know they only lasted a day lol. right, so ill have to buy a plant or two and then will they cross-breed or you know what i mean lol make babies? the bulbs i planted were just from poundland, asiatic lilies was all that was on the pack :o)
