Weeping dawn redwood. I have seen some that look really cool and some that look pretty bad, this was one of the better looking ones I've seen.

I like this one too but the weeping varieties of Bald Cypress are a little nicer looking. This one tends to go all over the place and look awkward (the one pictured above is one of the nicer looking specimens I've come across, looks much better than mine!). If you want a nicer looking one I'd suggest the bald cypress, I bought one of these because I wanted a dawn redwood but not a full sized one. It's amazing that this tree was thought to be extinct until the 1940's and now it is becoming a common landscape tree! Some of the best plants are the oldest ones.

that's very interesting, thanks for that. Amazing that plants can be brought back from the edge of extinction like that - evolve and survive for millions of years and then almost vanish completely.
I'll check out the Bald Cypress, thank you!

Everyone thought they were extinct but they were just hiding in China somewhere and nobody noticed lol. Bigfoot was hiding there too. True story.

lol indeed, Bigfoot is sure to be "scientifically" discovered one day, heaven help the poor thing!

I can understand scientists discovering a new moth but a bigfoot is pretty big, you'd think someone would have run one over by now lol. If they do exist, good for them for hiding so well!

Bigfoot is a bit like UFOs, fairies, ESP and the Bermuda Triangle - so attractive to the "lunatic fringe" that reputable researchers don't want to go near it, in case it rubs off and tarnishes their reputation. So even if there is something in any of them, it'll take a loooooooooong time for science to notice.
but Bigfoot is different; there really does seem to be something there, and why not? Eskimos got pushed further north by more aggressive people moving into their old territories; why couldn't that happen to another species of humans who couldn't compete with this upstart new model?

What else?
See who else is growing Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Dawn redwood).
See who else has plants in genus Metasequoia.

oh, that looks nice. I've been checking out mini conifers, and some of the "weeping" varieties look sad enough to weep for real!
