My Ice Cream bananas ripened super fast in the extremely hot weather we've had here. They were so, sweet and ripe when I picked them I had to quickly give them away to my neighbors. Photo taken Sept. 23, 2014.

They usually grow a little larger; however, with the extreme drought they're smaller. They are still very sweet and moist.

Wish we had those here. Never see them in the shops.
How lovely to have them in your garden. :)

Shirlwhirl:
I grow several varieties of bananas. I'm surprised these bananas were so good with the extreme drought here. Many of my plants are suffering with the severe heat waves and drought.

Is that what they look like? Alright. I planted a pup in June..its now about 6' including leafs, and a couple of suckers already. They do have nice foliage- satiny for a banana.

This is a good variety. Give it lots of water and fertilizer and you'll have really good bananas even in the Bay Area.
