This arrived in my garden several years ago (dropped by a bird?). I've collected seed from it twice but have been unable to germinate it yet. I've tried all the usual ways - fresh, spring, stratified. Any suggestions?

I can't remember if it was three or four years, Sandra but the foliage was so distinctive and attractive that I was prepared to wait to confirm what I thought it was. Of course it's now in totally the wrong place and at least if I lose it moving it I will have replacements.

They come up as seedlings the following spring just from falling to the ground in my garden, so i assume they prefer not being dried out.

I purchased this peony 5 years ago and it's growing nicely on my peony garden. I made the mistake of cutting it down like an herbaceous peony and so, my resulting plant has my shoots just like a lilac when cut back.
Ilovepeonies and this was my very first tree peony!

Hello Wagger ~
If it was a bird brought in the seed, that was a very pretty present.
I guess if I you fed Paeonia seed to the birds, it would be your neighbour's gardens where all the new Paeonia would appear. :o)
Maybe it will be third time lucky.
Welcome to GoY.
Enjoy.
