Moved this to a bigger pot last year.

Janey, this is in a 50/50 mix of garden and ericaceous soil. I do have a Pieris in a West facing border where it thrives.

Yes, a lovely lot of blooms. Mine has few this year as I chopped off quite a lot of stems that were getting straggly. However it has done the trick & bushed out nicely. I expect it will have more flowers next year.

Josie, yours sounds lovely. We had a downpour of hailstones earlier this afternoon ... the poor plants won't know whether to bloom or not!

Wow, I thought mine had done well this year but yours has so many more flowers. What a beauty…

Thanks Hb, I think it is thriving as it went in to a bigger pot last year and was topped up with 50/50 garden soil and ericaceous soil.

I must remember your 50/50 garden soil and ericaceous compost, when I pot it on again.

Janey, it certainly seems happy in that mix.

We had a long spell of thunder and lightening served up with hailstones tonight! Nothing says Spring like Hailstones does it?!

Missed this one, Shirley. It’s a big beauty, isn’t it!!! Lots of little flowers on it too - my Pieris’ are pitiful in comparison!!

Karen, I just heard this morning that it is snowing in some parts of Devon. We have gusty wind and heavy rain, and so it goes on!
No worries Kate, it is impossible to keep up with photos and blogs at times! I just hope the strong winds forecast for later today do not damage it.

Snowing indeed? It must be summer!
28 Mar, 2024
Karen, the wind and rain here has now stopped so I went out to check for any damage and heard a bee buzzing. It was huge and had settled on the Pieris flowers in the sunshine we had for a whole ten minutes!

Well, this is the nicest morning we’ve woken up to since we moved down here Shirley (Sat) things are looking up!

Make the most of it ... showers and rain next week ... :o(

Yes, I saw that forecast too. But showers will be an improvement on the deluge!

What else?
See who else is growing Pieris japonica (Lily of the valley bush).
See who else has plants in genus Pieris.

So many flowers Shirley! I've just bought one and potted it up with ericaceous compost. My other one didn't like the alkaline soil.
