Tecomaria capensis...tough as nails. (Tecomaria capensis (Cape Honeysuckle))

Not planted as much as it used to be around the bay area but where it grows it makes a large viney shrub that gets by on little water. Hummingbirds love the flowers.

Yes, that looks like perfect humming bird food! Beautiful colour, like a flamenco dancer’s dress. :)

It’s looking good. They’re blooming here.

The hummingbirds are nesting here right now.

Seeing on the news the rains in San Diego. Three months worth in one day they said. So far the only flooding here in the bay area is up north where it usually floods but as far as the inner bay area ,no damage.

Stan,

Yes, a tremendous amount of widespread flooding throughout SD County on Monday. Many areas had 2 to 5 inches of rain within 2 to 3 hrs in these severe thunderstorms. I had 3 1/2 inches of very welcomed rain! It was like nighttime during the day, all the street lights were on when the rains were coming down in buckets. I faired well, just some water in the garage (it’s a huge advantage to be on the top of a hill). The freeways (some closed), many homes had 3 to 6 ft of water. San Diego’s horrible drainage system is not set up to receive so much rain in such a short period of time.

On the the bright side, it’s been in the mid- 70’s the last few days and today it was 80 degrees. So it’s beautiful now. A possible strong atmospheric river comes back at the end of this week, though.

The latest river is tonight,Wednesday. After we set warm records Sunday and Monday. Just wild back and forth.
Still have not needed to water the yards for weeks minus the epiphyte plants in pots under the Podocarpus trees..the trees blocking rains.
