Tomatoes in a basket

For Jensen….
These pictures are from 2009 – my first ever attempt at hanging baskets.
I’ve amazed myself by finding the label for the tomatoes:
I’ve only got one photo showing the tomato plant while it was still growing upright. At that stage all the growth was above the basket, it’s difficult to tell where the basket is but you can see the bracket at the top right of the photo and the chains coming down from that:
And this is what happened next. Over it goes!
I think I did panic a bit at this point, thinking the stem would snap under the weight, but it was all good.
Hanging below the basket by this stage:
And then I ate them :o)

I've grown these from seed for the first time this year and they've just started to flower! I'll be delighted if they turn out like yours did...:o)

I`ve never tried them in baskets, I do panic sometimes thinking mine in the G`house are going to snap under the weight and thats when the twine comes out, lol, I like your quip, as soon as mine start to ripen I`m in there, I also eat them straight from the plant, especially the cherry ones....

I've always thought that was a good idea, but never get round to it myself. They look very nice.

Sheila - Glad it made you smile ;o))
Franny - If mine did ok it was beginners luck! Hope you have the same with yours :o)
TT - And very nice they were too ;o))
Lincslass & Hywel - I like the idea of growing them in baskets but in practice watering did become a bit difficult, the baskets tilted over to one side because of the weight so I'd end up getting more water on myself than on the tomatoes lol !! Not sure I'd do it that way again...this year's are in pots on the ground ;)

I have 2 baskets of toms but too heavy to hang so just got them sitting on top of an upturned pot.
Think better planted in a large pot ,I have a lot of green but not ripening so need sunshine.

I agree with you Scotkat - about both the pot and the sunshine!

Hahaha . . marvellous! Really must try this myself - you can't beat the taste of a Tomato straight from the plant into your mouth :-))
