Now is the time to start.
In California it rains every ten years. The Cactii in the
desert flower.

Small plants are now at Garden Centres. About £3.
Get six or more however you fancy. Take home and repot into 3 " pots. Wearing gloves because of the spikes.

Cover with several layers of fleece for the winter.
From April to September emulate the California conditions.
Give them a good drink of water every 6 weeks.

I have had one that flowered 4 times this year. In July
it had 15 flowers on. They only last 3 days. Lovely.

I give them my own names. Call it ‘Grand dad.’

How about some photos?
My cacti flower - one Christmas cactus in bud already. I haven't given it a name. Guess you don't have those in California as they are not desert cacti.

I have two small cacti gardens, one at each end of my bedroom windowsill. I have had them since the early 70s and love them. They each have three plants, some cacti some succulents; occasionally they flower which is a delight and makes me think I am not doing so badly caring for them after all ;-) They flowered more profusely in my last house where my bedroom windowsill was south-facing but I am not going to move them to another room, they are a welcome sight to wake up to every morning.
