New Year Greetings from Mid Wales

Hi all, Happy new year and all that….. when is the weather going to improve ??
It snowed here on the 24th Nov. and apart from three days we had snow and freezing temps until 28th Dec.
Snow has disappeared but it is still blooming cold.
Lavender bushes seems to have survived but my Myrtle looks decidedly sick…also camellias don’t look too good.
On the upside… I am still digging Chantonay carrots from the polytunnel as well as Spring onions and parsley, mint and several varieties of thyme.
Lowest temp recorded at back of house was -14 and in polytunnel -10c.
I remember the 62/63 winter in London but it doesn’t seem the same.. then I was a Spring chicken gungho to get to the office everyday…it was fun!!! now it is a pain in the butt !! particularly when the Geese and chickens look at you as tho you personally have hidden the grass and frozen the water !!!
Would love to hear from any of you who have comments on the ‘extreme’ weather we have been having… Here we think the weather people have decided that Powys does not exisit…….
Happy New year to all you gardeners -I have ordered my Pots for next year but in the meantime am hunkering down and keeping warm….
Best Wishes Grandmamoy

Hi GrandmaM. lovely to hear from you there in deepest, coldest Powys! It's a little warmer up here but the garden looks like a tip and the thought of going out there to tidy makes my blood run cold!!!! I will go out if I am pushed and I might have to be, lol. Well at least the silly season is behind us (non stop shopping etc!) so we have spring to look forward to now and that wont be long, says me, very optimistically, I bet the bulbs are thinking about popping up soon and I can see shoots on shrubs, so all will be well. You wrap up warm in that polytunnel now, naught like freshly dug carrots! Happy new year to you and all. x

Happy New Year to you and thanks, afraid I cannot provide any good news as regards the weather, I think we are going backwards where I live, lol, snow in Nov up until Christmas was over, then we had very damp foggy days. Now when I was a kid it happened the other way round, I well remember not being able to see more than a few yards ahead and having to listen carefully before crossing a road, in fact it was a relief to get a cold spell, one can add a jumper for warmth but that murky fog just seeps in everywhere. I guess we just have to go with whatever we get..
Had a chuckle picturing you getting stoney stares from your feathered friends, guess they have to accuse someone and they say one always blames the nearest and dearest, so take it as a compliment.
Stay warm and keep planning for the spring and summer......
