Tomatoes

Carried out a bit of an experiment this year, as usual I grew my plants from seeds ( Gardeners Delight, Alicante, Marmande and Sun Baby) and when they were large enough I put them in 10 inch tall pots.
But unlike the last 3 years, instead of buying grow bags and filling the pots with this material, I grew some in stuff out of my compost bin and some in garden soil.
The end results were excellent – no different at all. One plant “forked” at a height of 3 ft , growing 2 thick stems 6 ft 6 ins tall and ended up with 13 trusses, all with toms on.
So I’ll know what to do next year.

I grow my tomatoes and cucumber from seed, and put in 9inch pots and only use ordinary potting compost and they do well, i believe the growbags are the same as normal bags of compost, i do feed well though with tomatoe food, infact feed everything in my garden with it.
