Yellow and Black Garden Spider

We have had to park our one vehicle (my husband hit a deer with it going to work, and the parts are expensive, so it is one part at a time!) and we park it out back….Now there is a spider that has taken up residency in the wheel well. She has made a great web across the hub cap, and sits quite happily in the sunlight waiting for lunch to arrive!
My Mother in law (normally a very loving lady) wanted nothing more than to destroy not just the web but Mistress Spider as well! She has been stopped for the moment, but now I must keep a closer watch on her every weekend when she comes down!!!

Countrybumpkin...believe it or not it's name is yellow and black garden spider...lol
Thanks everybody, and so far success...she is 74 and I think she may have forgotten it...ummmm....i DID show her the shed skin from an 8 foot black racer snake we found in the yard also.
She is far more afraid of snakes than spiders, even though Mistress spider is over 2 1/2" long and 1" in diameter!!

Growing up we would have at least one and sometimes 2 build webs in the bushes right outside our picture window. My mother who has an extreme fear of spiders would insist that they be left alone by us kids. "they're outside not inside so that's ok and they are beautiful spiders" The males look quite different and are extremely smaller.

you may have seen males and just didn't know what you were looking at...they look that different. They would share the web with the female until mating was done and then she ate him for lunch...lol strange how some life cycles go.
