Today I got a lovely surpise gift from OH, a pair of secateurs and a labelling machine! I’m delighted to say the least, as the latter is something I’ve always said I was going to buy and never did. It’s a nuisance when you look for the name on a label and it’s either faded with the sun or washed of with the rain. I have already printed out some new labels and the results are really great. The black ink on white sticky tape is easily seen, there are also different kinds of lettering to chose from, incase the names in brackets, that’s just a few things. But no doubt I’ll find out what else it does. This is a great pastime for a rainy day, all I have to do now is remember the names of the plants to put on the labels. LOL!!
Update – here is a sample of some labels (8" and 4") with a pound coin for scale.

Thanks for that! I'm not a technical kind of person, but I found this machine really easy to use. I'll post some tomorrow if that's alright Terratoonie?

I would like to see pics also, since I've thought about buying one of those labeling machines. One problem I've had this spring - well, pre-spring - is that I've forgotten just where I'd planted things last year! I've got some plants marked off with sticks, but others I just keep "losing".....for example, I planted 5 Spigelia marilandica last year, a couple of them have just begun to show some life, and some days I can count 5 and other days I can only find 3! I lost one of the Phlox divaricata too; I suspected I'd planted 3 because I usually purchase odd numbers of plants, but could only locate 2 and figured that's all I'd planted. But this morning I found the 3rd. I would hate to accidentally dig up a plant because I'd forgotten about it! Labeling them properly is a good idea.

That's a handy thing to have. I remember having a thing called Dymotape years ago. It was like a gun lol, but you could print words on it. Nice to have help to remember the names of plants

I remember the old Dymo-guns too, Hywel, you could label all sorts of things with it. My Dad used to run a car repair business when I was younger and I got the job of labelling all the plastic boxes for car spare parts! : o )

Very neat!

those tags look great - I may buy a P-touch myself soon! It sure beats using sticks.

Those labels look excellent :o)

Thanks! Karen. I find the plastic labels become brittle and just snap. So I thought about smoothing some offcut pieces of wood, coat with yacht varnish, then put the labels on. I think they would blend in more with the plant, and be less visible!

Thanks! Lauram & Terratoonie

It is handy Hywel, no more dried up pens either! I don't remember those machines that you and Shirley mentioned.
