Yesterday I saw a lovely Butterfly but it had gone by the time I got the camera. I was looking to see if a particular grass was growing when I came across a Ladybird. I don’t know if it was alive or not, I didn’t want to disturb its just in case it was still asleep! Then on to the next plant, I pushed the leaves back and out flew one Greenfly! Well.. now that I know there on the move I’ll be looking out for them! Today I saw another lovely big Bumblebee!

I thought it quite early too! Must be the lovely sunhine we've had for a couple of days! There was a huge wasp in the porch the other day, I covered it with a glass and postcard, boy was it furious!!! I did manage to set it free, eventually!!

I have seen some yellow and soem blue butterflies. Yes, the greenfly are out, my roses have been covered in them, and have taken intense treating and the tulips have shown signs of an infestation starting.

The warmer weather is bringing out the freinds AND the foes.

The butterfy I saw was a dark coloured one but I couldn't see it's markings! Your poor plants I hope they'll be ok! It's amazing how those aphids survive despite really cold weather!

i think the one on the blossom was one of those mottled brown types? i tried to take its photo but it flew away too quickly.

The one I saw was either a Painted Lady or Red Admiral?

It's nice to see the insects. I saw a big bumble bee in my conservatory lol. Haven't seen any greenfly yet, and don't want to see them either :(
I saw one ladybird last year, but no others for years. I think they have died out around here.
We have plenty of moths. Blodyn chases them :)

Lots of ladybirds in my gardens this spring... more than I've seen for a long while... but no moths... I think Blodyn chased mine away ....lol.

I don't know if it's because I've become so much more interested in my garden again this year but everything seems to be so early to me. I have to say that I haven't seen much insect life yet though - probably due to the lack of plants.

Checked to see if the Ladybird was still there, but it's gone. Must've been resting!

Still on the subject of not so welcome, I've just had a look at the Ligularias and have noticed that something, possibly slugs, have eaten the ones with the flat oval leaves, but, the ones with the serrated leaves so far haven't been touched, well not yet anyway! I wonder why? Also the new shoots of the Comfrey have been eaten right down to soil level, by I'm sure the same culprit!

found a big slug in my garden last night ~ NOT happy!!
pigeons ate my erithronium[?] down to the ground but i put a cloche on them and now they are fine ~ about 7" tall with buds on

I saw pigeons pecking at the edge of a border but it must've been for the insects, as there's no damage in that area. There's also a wood pigeon that lands if food is available, but, I dont think it ate the comfrey because of where it's situated, it would be more open to being attacked by the cats around here, that's why there's only one wood pigeon now!

Thank goodness you saw the Erythroniums, being pecked, at least now you know their after them! Little Devils!

I hope we don't get another really cold spell, now that they're out and about!

26 Mar, 2011

Yes.. let's hope the chilly weather won't come back !

We've only had 0c once since I last saw the butterfly. I saw another big Bumble on wed, so it hasn't affected that one anyway!
