My old man found out why the birds are not sitting on their nests.
This was on our local radio station 3 days ago.An ornothologist said that there was not enough food , ie worms etc about for them to eat

As well as seed and food scraps I am still putting birdcakes out, and my bird bath is being well used even by the larger birds.I had to go out yesterday and break the ice for them.

ICE ! MAY ? Where do you live Mavis, this is a crazy season isn't it?

There was ice on the windscreen a few miles from here yesterday - in the mild SW of England!!!!
I'm concerned for the birds, as well - the badgers are gobbling up worms which means that the birds are missing out.
I'm feeding them but the food just vanishes within a few minutes!

We have been putting out mealy worms for our robins and they have been flying backwards and forwards to their nest to feed their young and have filled up the feeder three times today! We are sure that by feeding them now will help the babies survive.
