IVY

Thank you so much for the useful comments about the ivy! I will look up that tool and tackle it that way. This is a great community.

I have managed to get some edging on freecycle so will use it for that first bed of annuals

Keep at it!

Know it's very frustrating. My garden didn't have trees growing all over it, but the previous owners mowed the lawn, planted some lovely plants but didn't seem to believe in doing any weeding so the boarders were mainly made up from weeds. Last year I took the hard decision not to add anything but spent the whole time just clearing. GOY where such a help as if I had any doubts what something was, as there where weeds I had never even seen before, someone always helped me. Some of it took days just to clear small areas and the root systems were so thick I broken gardening tools just trying to get through it. But I got there in the end and so will you! The satisfaction you will get at the end of it knowing that you did it will be brilliant. Good luck with the Ivy. Jen

Thanks caillie and jen. I reckon it will be an on going battle with ivy. I need to get the saw out tommorow to get rid of some of it

My nightmare in my garden is it is riddled with horsetail. I had never come across it till this garden. Good luck with the saw, I've got to do the same with Ivy growing up the electricity pole in my front garden. Think previous owner grew it up pole to hide it but it's nearly up to the wires. I am really not a fan of Ivy!
