Mugged by a Squirrel........

On saturday i was pottering in the garden and had a sit down when a large Dragonfly landed on my arm….it was at the top of my arm starring its bug eyes at me… i darnt move….. after a while i tried to get indoors with the dragon fly on my arm to get the camera… but it flew off before i could take a pic…… : O ))
Then on sunday i was hanging washing out when i heard a comotion from round next doors sidegate….. i knew she was out so went to investigate.. i couldnt beleive my eyes as a large squirrel was running up and down the wall of the house next door which is only a couple of feet away from my fence….i was fascinated as we dont get squirrels here being so near to the sea and a lack of trees never seen one in the 5 years ive been here….. after running up the wall it ran down onto the fence and suddenly made a dive at me.. it happened so quick it landed on my hands i must have put them up to protect my face…. it hit me with a thud and i felt it scratch me… i screamed out and it ran off back up the fence along to neighbours gardens…. i watched in amazment and couldnt belevie what had just happened….. it was quite large and my hands were hurting….. i went indoors quite shaken…. and today i have scratches on my right hand and my left hand hurts a lot where it is bruised…..i dont know where it came from or why it jumped on me…. but i dont think i will get to near a squirrel again…..

I'd be tempted to put plenty of antiseptic cream on the scratches, it must have really shook you up...

yes i did Dido.... i love the wild life in the garden, but will be very wary now...

That must have been such a shock for you, Holly, can't understand why a Squirrel would do that. Strangely, there was one in our back garden this morning, eating peanuts from the bird feeder ! OH reckons they're heading to a convention at Butlins ... lol Kep a wary eye on those scratches.

What a shock you must have had, Holly. I've heard of this sort of thing happening in parks where squirrels expect people to have food for them but never in a garden before. I think that one definitely deserves an ASBO! Hope your hands improve quickly.

lol... Shirley.... this one was heading for the sea front... : O ))

Thanks gee19.... it all happened so quickly.. cant think why it was so scared and running up next doors wall...

Lucky your squirrel is nt in contact with racoons or skunks then there is a posiblity it could carry rabies, seldom town ones do. It must of been terrifing for you Holly, I have one come in my garden and I don't trust it, it spat at me once too from the tree as I had disturbed it while pinching the birds food hanging my washing out, so it jumpe on to the tree and climbed up while I was watching it, then it looked down and spat at me lol.

Hope you are ok now, Holly, and the hands healing well. That was really unusual, as you said, it must have been very frightened to have attacked like that! Hope it doesn't spoil your pleasure of being outside my friend. :~((

Ooh Holly ... scary! It must've been spooked to have reacted like that?
What a shame ... it would've been lovely to see it gently pottering about your garden instead of flying at your face like a wild banshee! I do sympathise! :o)

How scary was that.I hope you are feeling ok.I had to smile atShirleys husbands comment about Butlins,though..it wasn't a red one was it ? Seriously, I think we would all have felt like you...

Aw sorry Holly what a strange and scary thing to happen I hope your hands are recovering well

Sorry Holly but that made me laugh lol. I do hope you're all right ! I've never heard of such a thing. Maybe the squirel was frightened being so far away from it's natural habitat in woods.
I do hope you're all right. I didn't mean to laugh but I couldn't help it :o(

I have picked up on your blog late and i am sure by now you are alright .But yes any one should be careful of them .we have them in plague proportions and have seen them with there cousins the Rat feeding together, in fact one seems to attract the other .Recently we had a dog die a few streets away from Weil's disease after being in an area frequented by both. Why people feed them i can never understand.Misguided i suppose

how awful for the poor dog to die of Weils disease.....ive heard of this but not come across it before...

It is aw full the vet did everything he could for 3 days but to no avail and it had to be put down.
Even worse my neighbour had a friend contract it from a rat droppings on a river bank while fishing and he lived only a day.he was in his 30s, you can never be to careful

OMG.... how awful....

Gardeners should keep up their antitetanus jabs and never treat things like that lightly. You do need to act when it happens as it is too late after the event. I hope you are feeling more confident now and glad to hear the wounds are healing.
