Bella

My cat Bella has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She eats like a horse but has become very thin. I can feel all her bones, although she doesn’t look thin because she has long fur.
A few weeks ago she had a blood test (costing £200 !) which confirmed what the vet thought, and now she has to be on medication.
What a job it is trying to get her to take it, and she’s got to have it twice a day :( I’ve been given a syringe to squirt it into her mouth but she wriggles so much it goes all over her fur !
I’ve tried putting it on her food but she won’t eat it.
Anyway, what I do now is put the syringe at the side of her mouth and squirt it in before she wriggles too much. I’m getting used to it … ha!
Then I give her food immediately after it, in the hope she’ll remember that instead of the medicine.
The prognosis seems good as long as she takes the medicine, and she’ll eventually put the weight back on … but she will need another blood test soon, to see how the thyroid level in her blood stream is getting back to normal
(another £200 !)
but there you are, we can’t let them suffer can we …
Spring is on the way, the sky is still quite light at 5 o’clock now. Things are looking up !
