Too much bamboo !

The man who fixed my decking lives just around the corner, literally, about 500 yards away.
While he was doing the decking he said he had some bamboo in his garden and he was going to dig it up because it was taking over … and he asked me if I would like some.
Of course I said “Yes please”, and knowing how they spread I thought I would put it in a pot.
Well yesterday afternoon, while I was in the garden, I heard him calling me from the side entrance, and he and his wife had brought me ‘some’ bamboo ! – loads of it ! They were both carrying huge clumps of it !
I had a shock at the amount, but thanked them and they went away.
Then I thought “What on earth am I going to do with all that !”
So I found two big pots and planted some in each, and the rest went into my garden waste bin …
I put the pots on my new decking area :-
There’s more in the bin than in the pots !

They look good as you have them, Hywel. We looked at a 'for sale' house once and the garden was overrun with the stuff. Put me off for life!

Looking good potted up, Hywel. Adds height in that corner. I do wonder if they were engulfed with bamboo themselves and were keen to reduce their amount? I've found that over the years! Kind all the same.

Great idea to pot up the bamboo. Both pots are looking good.

I agree, the pots do look good. I have had a Bamboo in a pot for years but doesn't seem to grow much.

I like the look of it in your pots Hywel. Adds more interest to that area but agree with saying "everything in moderation" .
..... potted plants underneath the bamboos look very nice too.

They look very good where you have put them, Hywel! The pots underneath them look the ideal compliment for the bamboo.

well that was a good bargain Hywel. As said good idea to put it into pots, just in case it is a running one.
The decking does look good.

Hywel, I couldn't bring myself to even have Bamboo in pots after having one planted in the ground as it spread so much!
It was in a raised bed, surrounded by some log-roll edging stuff, the Bamboo actually pushed it horizontal ... awful stuff.
Make sure the roots don't go through your new decking either ... sorry to be such a moaner.

I second Shirley's comment...I would check periodically that the bamboo isn't creeping through under the pot. It's almost as lethal as Japanese knotweed. Sorry Hywel.

I reckon they wanted to get rid of it & didn’t like throwing it away. I don’t like getting rid of plants & prefer to pass them on if I can,but sometimes they just have to go in the bin. Bugle & Stachys lanata being 2 examples, oh & Lychnis.
Must have missed this blog before. The potted Bamboo looks very nice. Don’t let it escape 👍

That was over generous Hywel...thank goodness you potted them...the spreading ones are becoming a real nuisance in gardens reaching way beyond perimeters into neighbours gardens.Yours look good in the photos giving height.Love the decking too.
