They seem to come when the other birds arnt around...but our pecking order is....seagulls chase the woodpigeons...woodpigeons chase Blackbirds.... Mrs Blackbird chases Mr Blackbird....Mr Blackbird chases the Robin or anything else around..... The little Wren is so tiny she flits about anywhere.... and my Dogs go out and chase them all lol..............

Holly ~ That's really funny. Lol.
My Sheltie, Conker, thinks Wood Pigeons are cats, so he sends them away with a woof. Blackbirds and smaller birds he allows.
His problem is Collared Doves. Are they big blackbirds, so permitted in his garden, or are they small Wood Pigeons, so woofed away with the cats?
He is still trying to make up his mind...

Lol Very Entertaining2watch im Sure Holly :)My Summer just sits & watchs the Birds ,But any strange cats in my garden get Woofed & Chased out 2 TT :) She`l even give My Own Cats a Chase if shes in Her Energetic Mood lol :)

Henry used to chase the poor blackbirds as well as the 'Jumbo Jet' wood pigeons, and odd pheasants that stroll in as if they owned the place. I have tried to get him to leave the blackbirds - I think he's learning! He doesn't chase the small birds at all.
Oh yes, Jacque - all cats are fair game! I encourage him to chase them out as we don't have a resident one.

I get quite a lot of birds i my garden, sometimes i have to laugh, when the birds are in my garden and any cats come, the birds move so quick, but they must know Smokey is getting old and does'nt move that fast, infact most of the time the birds just carry on eating while Smokey watches them, infact they even carry on feeding when he walks past them, yet a few years ago he use to catch birds and mice for fun.

This is lovely Jacque, Funnily enough I had a thrush (just one) on the bird table yesterday and again today. He had quite a bit of yellow colour at the top of its chest, the books don't show this, BB will know what this means :-)

Hi Dawn....Jane here again...Bb says song thrush? Redwings also have yellow areas to chest but you would probably notice red patches under wings first.Jacque.....you are soooo lucky to have two in your garden. It must be quite the wildlife haven now !

8 Jan, 2009
Yes Jacque, saw a little bird the other day that I havent seen before, it was hopping around a corsican pine, thought it was a wren at first but wrong colour and shape. BB identified it for me as a Goldcrest, I'm so excited as they like coniferous trees and I don't think it would have visited if we hadn't set the blocks of pines. Yes, Jane that would be good, knowing my luck, on the day, not so many will visit!

Like you Jacque I am getting a big variety of birds. I have seen 2 thrushes as well, about 6 blackbirds, lots chaffinches, green finches, sparrows, 1 coal tit, 1 blue tit, wren, woodpecker, and Mr Pheasant! But the long tailed tit's never did return.
Ought to set the camera up permanently to try and capture them all.

It,s the Apples Jacque they love them , it would be nice if they did nest in your garden , if you have a nice crop of Apples on your new tree you might have to put a net over it so that you can have some for yourself LOL

Jacque ~
That's wonderful.
I hope you have thrushes nesting in your garden this summer.
I got so much pleasure from the nest in my garden last year.
The thrush nest was surprisingly close to my back kitchen door, so I watched all the to-ing and fro-ing of feeding. Both parents worked so hard to rear the two youngsters. :o)
