jackie im sure i had this discussion with andrew the other week, and they do flower about this time apparently, some flower only in spring, im going to check it out

Hi Gee Got this New this Spring & it didnt flower back then :/ My Rhodedenron Has Buds Now & so does My Camellia ! What will i do withm ? I dont want 2 lose the Flowers to frost :(

I think perhaps those flower "buds" are the seed heads?

back jacque and yes was right andrew said there are two main magnolias in our gardens called m.stellata and m.soulangeana they both flower in spring but the latter may also flower about now

It's quite normal for Camellias to have buds at this time of year, the frost won't harm them as some of them flower in February anyway. I think it's normal for Rhododendrons too, can't go and look at mine to check as it's almost dark!

Yes you can find bud on rhodos. sitting all through the winter - just like we have trillium noses poked out of the ground... we used to worry now we just dump some leaves and small brances on them to hold the leaves down

Our magnolia starts to show its buds now. Last winter they survived -20C and still flowered as normal.

In my other house, i had a lovely old magnolia tree, which flowered in the Spring and again in August/September......the buds would then form for the following year.............

Hi Holly iv always Loved Magnolias & My Phil Purchased 1 for me this Jan but it didnt flower :( so as u can guess im really excited about this having its 1st Flower Buds:)

They do take a while to flower......so pleased you have buds on yours...........its lovely when a new plants or shrub gets its first flowers as we have had a lot of sun this year things flowered in my garden , that hadnt before......been a great year.......

Strange you should post this blog, Jacque, because I noticed these on my little magnolia tree a few days ago and took some photos. I wonder if the abnormal weather has caused them to try another flush of flowers?
