Tree Peony

I’ve had this tree peony for many years and it had become rather straggly so this year I pruned a couple of the branches in February. I was worried that the pruned branches wouldn’t have any flowers but all is well and it had lots of flowers, so next year I’ll prune the remaining branches. This is one of the flowers (with bee!) -

Next post: Lots of green, not much colour yet.

Thank you Dido, mine took a few years before it first flowered too, but now each year it has more flowers so well worth the wait. What colour is yours?

It's a white one, so hopefully the first of many for me, patience not my strongest point, not really the best absent trait for a gardener eh!

Last year my yellow 1 bloomed for the 1st time after 5yrs and its full of buds again.

Thanks for the welcome Scotkat. I've seen the yellow ones, they are lovely, and went to Wisley recently and saw a white one which was beautiful.

My yellow Tree Peony has about 15 buds on it and is in bloom. It looked a sorry sight in March. I lopped 3 of the most sad looking bits off it and left the tallest in place. Fed it. Hey presto, king or queen of the jungly border at the moment.

Spectacular, if only they would last a little longer.

Wow! mine only has tiny buds at the moment, as Bjs said it is a shame they don't last longer. I've never thought of pruning mine.

I agree BJS it is such a short time for this shrub to bloom. We visited a friend once, before they moved away from where we could comfortably visit. She had wanted to grub up a very tall tree peony smothered in blooms. I had said leave it for the next people to decide. The buyers had fallen in love with the garden and the tree peony... Ours has lovely leaves but looks horrible in the winter.
