Sea gull

If a gull that lives by the sea is called a seagull, what do you call a gull that lives by the bay? A bagel. That is joke, of course. What about me? I am rivergull.
I was born here and never left to the sea. My friend gulls that live in coastal areas may sleep on the beach, I sleep on the top of buildings of this small town.
Many gulls that live near sea eat fish and other seafood. We eat everything from mollusks to snails and also scavange dead animals. Sometimes we pick up insects on fields during farmers plough. Life here is much harder but we do not complain.
We were born here…
We live just half as long as you people, but we live free of all bonds, which immobilize you.
People give us sometimes popcorn.
Thank you! Hmmm, that´s good.
You know, art of life is to get bread, but at the same moment stay free. Agree?

Not Terns, Pam, but Black-headed Gulls. Terns have shorter legs and are more 'torpedo-shaped' - not so 'hefty' as B-H Gulls. Nice blog, Katarina.

Yes Nariz BHgulls. The firat photo is a baby whose colours are not fully developed yet. They can be a serious problem when people feed them like this and have been known to attack!! children who are enjoying eating outside. They are after the food and do nor realise they ar doing wrong.

Thank you all. Photos were made by my cellular phone. I think they are called black-headed gulls, that is correct information and their official name. Somebody told me that.

Brill blog the seaguls that live here live on anything and everything the visitors give them or drop, as for winter if they sometimes come in my garden, if i through bread on the shed they are there in seconds taking it.

I like them. I was never attacked by seagulls, but several times my car was under the raid of snow owls (Nyctea scandiaca).

Oh dear that must have been scary Katarina. I've only ever seen snowy owls at exhibitions and if I remember rightly they are pretty big birds when they open their wings. Your photographs and blog are really clear and very enjoyable.

Scotsgran@ Thank you. No, owls are not scary, they appear just from a sudden and similarly dissappear. They are just blinded by car lights when hunting. Snow owls are rare in Europe, but for some reason we have observed several (or is it one?) of them in this territory.

We have the same problem with barn owls here and as you say it happens so fast you don't have time to be scared. They appear as being very white when caught in the headlights. My husband got a fright just after we moved here 40 years ago. He went out of the back door in the half light just before sunset and one flew up from the fence along the back of the garden only feet from him. Now we listen out for the owls which perch on the house and we know which direction the wind is from depending on whether he is on the north or the south side.

I think that you could call them Terns, beautiful birds so graceful in comparison to the bully boy herring gulls. Really lovely photo's Katarina, you've captured them so well
