After the rain....

Well, last night’s very basic ‘save the seedling’ plan appears to have worked. And now that it is light, I have refined my protectionist measures – the lettuce and I think parsley (could be coriander, can’t for the life of me remember which seed went in which row) get to hide under a bamboo pole (this could prove ineffective if the heavy rains we are apparently going to be getting for the next few days come down at an angle). The broccoli and spinach get to cower under strips of mulch-bag polythene woven into the plastic grid stuff that comes in rolls. I have to say, my admiration for this product grows daily. It used to keep pugs out of the borders, since when it has acted as a crapping cat deterrent, climbing rose/jasmine/clematis platform and now thunderous rain protection agent (agent? Erm, it’ll have to do!)

The bamboo solution is the least painful on the eye. The others look more than a bit makeshift, but then that’s hardly surprising really, given that makeshift is exactly what they are! Apologies for the dark photo – it was earlier and not as light as I thought when taken.

Thx. So far so good :-) The real test will come later today, if the Met Office is to be believed.

Looks like you have some ingenious ideas there.
I hope they're all successful :o)

Yes, theres lots to deal with when sowing seed isn't there? Rain, wind, snow, frost. They all do their damage but you seem to be holdiong the elements at bay!

Necessity is the mother of invention! What I am finding interesting is how attached I am to these seedlings. They are so cute! Maybe my affection stems from the sheer wonder of putting something tiny in the ground and seeing it produce a shoot that becomes a plant... that in this case you can eat. I want to write reams and reams about the miracle of plants and how maybe this is why gardens and gardening are so fulfilling... is that a choir I can hear? Perhaps a subject for another blog? :-)

It certainly grabs you, gardening, particularly once you've started seeing things growing from seeds you've sewn. Hope you continue to enjoy it.
