bedding down for winter

We had received a lot of rain the last part of October and the first part of November.

The past week and a half we have actually had some really nice weather but not much garden time due to it being dark by the time I arrive home from work.

Last Saturday and today I spent playing in the dirt…first planting mom’s bulbs back in the ground (the rain has delayed some of the revamping till spring) and this Saturday planting mom’s left overs in my yard :) nothing like freebies!!! Lycoris squamigera (resurrection lily) and various Hemerocallis (day lily)

I had to make a trip to Kelly Seed (a family owned hardware/seed store) for thistle seed for my birds and couldn’t pass up the Galanthus nivalis (snow drops) got them for half price.

What is this…

it jumped into my hands and refused to leave. I had no choice but to bring it home and pot it up. Looking forward to the display of the Amaryllis.

Strawberries are covered with their blanket of straw…pond pump shut down for winter.

now all snuggled in to prepare for a wonderful spring display.

It's a time of closing down and switching off, thats for sure! We have covered and cloched everything in the garden. The things in pots are all in the greenhouse and everything else will just have to take it's chance.

It's great to have everything in shape before the winter arrives.
