a beautiful morning

I got out early this morning to enjoy the sunrise and get a long run in before the weather turned brutally hot. I decided to bring my camera along, so here are some pictures of my neighborhood and its flora and fauna. The little black cat wanted so badly to approach me, but ultimately he/she ran off into the woods. The birds in the road are wild turkeys & they flew off as well. I wish I could get better pictures, but this is Georgia and there’s a gun culture here, so if somebody catches you taking photos of their property they’re likely to run out of the house with a shotgun. Seriously.

thanks Lauram for sending the photo's our heatwave broke today and it more than 10 deg. cooler and nicely raining!! your countryside is lovely and the animals ( but sorry about the neighbours)!

Lucky you with the rain. There's thunder now & supposedly we'll get some storms later on, but we've been dealing with horrible heat for weeks now and almost no rain.
I hate the guns. EVERYBODY has a gun here (well, except for me, but I'm a Northern girl so perhaps that's why). It's common to hear gunshots throughout the day....who knows what they're shooting at. It's uncomfortable.

sorry to hear about it Lauram do you have to stay ---- it doesn't sound too hospitable where you are :o((

well, Pamg....I have no place to go. I love my house, but it's a haunted house with termite issues (since resolved, the termites not the haunting, I mean) & unlikely to sell well in our housing market. But it really is a great house - it's over 100 years old, has original floors and fireplaces, etc., and it has about an acre and a half of land. I just wish people here were more, um, progressive & not still bitter about being on the losing side of the Civil War.

Your house sounds great Lauram although never got to Georgia had a similar experience in upper New York State when out early one morning taking photos of houses over looking lakes as mist rolled in a lovely setting ..when noticed was being followed by one then a group of people .

It became so obvious that I stopped and asked if there was a problem ..what are you doing walking round here with that camera ? apparently few walk anywhere .. eventually persuaded I was a Brit enjoying the views and not taking pics of their homes to raid later.

You paint a vivid picture of the reality that we over here tend to forget. I suppose it's not all that long ago but I do feel that the 'gun culture' should have fizzled out when John Wayne passed away. I'm always interested in hearing about America (as opposed to Europe) though you live in a very new Country that's still evolving. Your house sounds very nice with plenty of room though I'm not sure about the extreme weather conditions, over here a 100 year old house is considered almost new! Mine is over 500 years lol
Your pics a good especially the one with the yellow and white cow on it (have I got the name cow right?) The roads, well it would be nice if our roads were as busy :-))
Thanks for an interesting blog.

wow, a 500 year old house - that's amazing! I would really like to see some pics. In this area, only 7% of the housing stock was built before 1940, so believe it or not, mine is considered historic. In the northeast US it's different - many 18th century and even some 17th century homes survive.

I holidayed in the NE of the USA back in the 60's. I was with a girl friend from Boston and saw a lot of the none tourist spots, the scenery is eye-watering and the people made me very welcome indeed.....very nearly went back but that's a long story. Not sure about displaying pics of the cottage on the 'net' but suffice to say, imagine an average garage in the US and you've an idea of it's size. When it was first built it was semi-detached (Two in one) worse still the livestock lived downstairs! The only 'livestock' now is a cute little Lhasa Apso....and he sleeps upstairs.

Lovely pics and blog. Thanks for sharing your run with us. Its nice to see where other people live and their countryside. Sad about the gun toting neighbours though. I can't begin to imagine what it must be like, listening to shots being fired, randomly throughout the day or night. :o(
