Am I the only one who never seems to stop buying plants? So many times this year I’ve said to myself, “no more” or “there’s always next year” or “where on earth will I put them?” Well… I’ve lapsed again, I’m sorry to say. I’d ordered some plants from an online nursery in June, and now the nursery is having a Big Box Sale. Their largest box holds 16 plants. Buy 16 plants, or multiples of 16, and you get a whopping 30% off your order! Wow! So, I’m expecting a delivery next week of 6 cranefly orchids, 4 hellebores, 4 Barbara’s buttons and 2 Baptisia. I spent money I don’t have, but I justified it by purchasing mostly $8.99 plants rather than, say, $20 Arisaemas. I can manage to justify anything.
This will mean more digging and soil preparation and the removal of a whole lot of awful Georgia clay. But it’s so worth it, wouldn’t you agree? I really enjoy stepping out in the morning and looking at my ferns and figuring out what’s going to bloom next. I come home from work and it’s the same. My garden is new and not much to look at now. But when I see photos of established gardens, I can imagine how pretty my own will be someday. Maybe not spectacular, but nice enough.
Out to deadhead the Rudbeckia (actually, deadheading isn’t the word….we had some wind and rain last week and some of the plants are practically flat). Have a great evening, everyone!

No you're not alone. I'm going to a garden centre again today. But just to have a look around ( lol and if you believe that you'll believe anything ). I'm sure your garden will look wonderful when all your plants have settled in.

Buying plants used to control my life...this is how my garden got full within 7 yrs of moving here...but now it is...., I do not go as crazy as I used to, I only buy unusual plants now. But I would never say not to a plant. :)))))

We are all kin in this regard, I think! It's a dreadful disease ... I find I have withdrawal symptoms if I can't visit a nursery every couple of weeks!

Me too. Just bought three more plants this week but they are still in pots as I don't know where to put them. I think something old will have to go.........

I am guilty as well ,I went to Morrisons yesterday and got myself a nice selection of plants for twelve pounds.Well it is not my fault that they have their pound perenials on is it, and we did not really need lots of food! Plus I have a ready made reason they where a pre six weeks holiday present for me.Now I just have to plant them up .

We are leaving on vacation tomorrow, and I have known for months when we are leaving, but last weekend we found a new nursery and I bought 6 more plants - 4 penstemon, a tufted evening primrose, and an oregon sunshine. I am actually having someone "plant-sit" for the week as I really don't even know where in my yard they are going yet!! Last year I actually took plants on vacation with me because I just couldn't help myself . . . it's a sicknes, really . . . haha

I don't know any garden/plant lover that doesn't have this obsession for buying just one more....I have been planning all week to visit a terrific garden centre, about an hours drive from us.....unfortunately the heat, which is overpowering me at the moment has put a stop to that....so my money is safe for a few more days at least.....
