I got outside again today which is a rare treat at the moment! My back was not to bad after all!The railway sleeper is going to a bench, as it is already drying out well and nice and “clean” did alot of digging and leveling the soil.My parcel of plants arrived which spurred me on and I planted my flowering cherry tree.I dont know who was more excited me or my two yearold!Looks great and I am glad I invested in one for some height interest.does anyone know where on the web I may obtain knowledge on what shrubs flower in what months as I am trying to bring all year round interest! As he looks abit lonely now and needs some friends around him! Many thanks I know I ask alot of questions!

I have two books, one from the RHS - 'Garden Plants and Flowers through the year' and one by Mr. Titchmarsh 'The Gardener's Year' which you might find useful. Take a look at them next time you pass a bookshop!
Otherwise, the old tip of looking in the Garden Centre each month and seeing what's in flower, and buying one shrub that you like each month might help you.

I've got Mr Titchmarsh The Gardener's Year. not over keen on him, but do find his books very interesting. Good luck with your shrub buying.

Hi! A bit late on this, but I've recently spent a small fortune on plants. Some evergreen shrubs, some perennials. But my choice was governed by wildlife in mind, ie, birds, bees and butterflies. Have a look at my blog on free wildlife CD's. Might be nice to get your boys used to insects without getting screamish!!! My "helpful" elder son taught my younger daughter the delights of insects!!
