This is our house in Cooktown. Set in the centre of a mesyphyll rainforest block.

What a great spot you have there - envy you that lush surrounding rainforest. I live further down south at Brownsville (Townsville) and right now it's hard to find any green! You also seem to have that fertile red volcanic soil which I would also love.

Lovely spot Maggie, I did wonder what the red was (thanks Bernieth). Is it full of Iron to make it so red? Its obviously not the draught part that we hear so much about over here in the UK.

No Drc726 this area of Oz is not in a drought area. This area receives quite a bit of rain - hence the rainforest area all around. They have what's called a tropical wet savanna climate. I'm not sure about the composition of volcanic soil.

Lovely pics - I was just thinking last night that I need to cover up my banana before the frost comes!! Looking at your plants and surroundings I guess you dont get frost??

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, no frost :-) The tropics gets the humidity which is just now at the 'build up' stage to the 'troppo' season or what the locals call 'mango madness'! Not fussed on the idea of frost though used to live in Victoria many many moons ago and that has very cold winters. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Glad eveyone is enjoying the pics.
